New Video Highlights USFs Critical Role to All Americans

Washington, DC, August 7, 2006 -- As part of its broad effort to educate consumers about America's successful policy of universal service, the Coalition to Keep America Connected has launched a DVD designed to inform and mobilize consumers about issues that could threaten the viability of their communities, and impact their ability to afford basic communications services.

The DVD, entitled, 'You Can Tell the USF Story' explores the benefits which all Americans-and the communities in which they live-enjoy as a result of our nation's commitment to universal service policy. The Universal Service Fund (USF) ensures affordable access to the latest technologies for all consumers, no matter where they live.

From educational opportunities to health care services, economic development to disaster response, the video uses real-world examples to illustrate how USF helps communications providers deliver the advanced technologies consumers want-and need-to keep connected in our rapidly changing world.

'This video is an excellent resource for reaching out to and educating the millions of consumers that the Coalition to Keep America Connected represents,' said coalition spokesperson Wendy Mann. 'The video highlights the benefits of USF, and demonstrates to consumers how important USF is to their ability to connect to relatives and friends, and show community leaders how USF is critical to the vitality of their businesses and the future of their communities.

'Consumers have the power to make their voices heard by legislators and regulators-they can help ensure that USF support is available to independent communications providers who rely on it to build and maintain the network infrastructure needed to keep all Americans connected,' Mann said.
