Coalition to Keep America Connected Applauds Commissioner Tate's Leadership

Arlington, Va., June 13, 2007- The Coalition to Keep America Connected today released the following statement regarding testimony of FCC Commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate before the Senate Commerce Committee:

"The Coalition to Keep America Connected commends FCC Commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate for her testimony this morning before the Senate Commerce Committee. Commissioner Tate's support for stabilizing the Universal Service Fund through a temporary cap on payments to CETCs reflects her commitment to the reform desperately needed to protect consumers.

"Commissioner Tate's approach will provide a sensible interim solution while the FCC and Congress work to design and implement long-term reforms.

"Commissioner Tate deserves enormous credit for candidly addressing a problem that many would prefer to ignore. In the face of significant criticism, Commissioner Tate has continued to make the case for fiscal discipline and reform.

"The Coalition to Keep America Connected thanks Commissioner Tate for her leadership and ongoing efforts on the issue of ensuring continued access across the nation to affordable telecommunications services."
