My name is David Allison. I oversee the communication and computer needs of one of the largest (By Volume) Seafood processing plants in Alaska. We have a shore based plant located in Cordova, Alaska, during the summer months we have several Floating Processors that we operate in Prince William Sound (PWS), and our home office for Sales, and Marketing, is based in Seattle, Washington. We market our products world-wide and are by far the largest buyer of Raw Fish in PWS.
Cordova is a very small community in rural Alaska. We are not connected by a road to the rest of the world so we rely heavily on state of the art communications which is carried over a satellite transponder connection. Our telecommunications needs including Internet and cellular are sophisticated at our company and we must have reliable communications. We must communicate many times a day with our fishing fleet, our floating processors, our Cordova processing plant, and our Seattle Offices. We communicate via Satellite phone, Cellular Phone, E-Mail (Internet), Radio, LAN, WAN, etc., for Production and Marketing. Good Communications also gives us the added assurances necessary for a safe and well maintained environment on all of our facilities and fishing fleet. We work directly with buyers and brokers to market millions of dollars of products whether it be in Seattle or Singapore, Chicago or China and we must be able to connect in a timely fashion. |
